I have never played the infamous Singularity, but I must say that you have done a fine job with this piece. :D (Big Grin)

From what my research notes tell me, the E99 is a device that can alter the time states of people and objects but it can cause permanent damage to timelines and the user as well as a whole host of other effects. This relates extremely to the Doctor for obvious reasons, and I adore that! I just love the combination, it just suits him.

I also really enjoy seeing the old nostalgic Doctor Who show on the tele, which makes me happier, and it shows a bit of inception (The Doctor watching himself).

Excellent job! Here, have a cookie. Cookie

Actually, E99 is is the name of the element needed to make the device function. It's Singularity's equivalent of ADAM. The device itself is called the TMD, standing for Time-Manipulation-Device.

Just plain awesome! Thanks again for accepting my commission. ^^

Fun fact:
Underpable first though about using a modern television, but I instead suggested scouring Google pictures for an older model that would fit Singularity's cold war aesthetic. I couldn't use a wooden TV, since they wouldn't look good under the TMD's un-aging effect. What I finally chose was this: www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/objec…

We agreed on taking some artistic liberties, as said TV model is supposed to be encased in a walnut shell. We replaced the latter material with unrusting metal, and voilà! It's even British just like ol' Doctor!

Singularity! I remember seeing a walkthrough of the game, and is quite fascinated by the ideas it represented.

Since time travel and time manipulation magic is possible in canon, just imagine all the potential applications that could revolutionize Equestrian society if allowed to researched and fully develop...

I dunno...given how dangerous and finicky time spells have proven so far, this may be a Pandora's Box. (And NOT the POV Pandora; "our" Pandora.)

Twilight's self-fulfilling insanity time-loop was bad enough, and THAT mess was by accident. What happens if, say, Chrysalis decided to muck about with history?

That's the problem, really; the can of worms has already been opened canonically. And once it was opened, it would be next to impossible to contain the consequences.

This scenario is reminiscent of the one in RL Earth with nuclear power. The knowledge of radioactivity, mass energy equivalence, nuclear reactions and nuclear fission had been speculated and discovered between the 1890s to the 1930s, long before the Manhatten Project. Even if the Americans and the Soviets had been noble enough to stop nuclear energy and weapon research, it would only be a matter of time before some physicist in the UK or China would had pick up where it was left off and carry on.

In other words, the discovery/invention of nuclear power and weaponry was more or less inevitable, and impossible to suppress; there was nothing humanity could do but to live under the constant threat of nuclear armageddon and fallout, while milking whatever benefits they could by harnessing the enormous power-generation capability of nuclear energy.

Similarly, the moment Starswirl discovered a means to travel in and manipulate time, the genie is out of the bottle. As long as the potential exists, and the Equestrian universe permits time manipulation, even if Starswirl never discovered it, or his discovery remained obscured and forgotten in an archive as it had in canon, it would only be a matter of time before someone else re-discovered it.

Quite possible. In that case it would result in further edit wars by both heroes and villains alike. Imagine a vast cosmic conflict on par with Star Trek's "Temporal Cold War"...

Well, regarding time travel applications, I really don't recommend using E99.
Many reasons:
-It's radioactive
-It can cause severe time-related mutations to the body (like accelerated aging or uncontrolled de-aging)
-Misused, it could potentially damage a timeline permanently
-It's an alien element, therefore it can't be renewed
-It creates unstable time-zones phasing between past and present constantly

No really, for time travel research, I'd rather recommend the Tardis: it's safer. ;p
And Singularity is indeed awesome. It's like Bioshock, but with Soviets.

:iconseriousjupiter:

The Tardis isn't THAT safe. Once it nearly destroyed the entire universe when it blew up (which I still think was bullshit writing, but whatever).
Reply
:iconcoobalt-dahonli-one:
Yeah but at least there, the Doctor was able to advert this from happening. (though I may be wrong on that; I'm not a hardcore Whoovian)

The TMD is more dangerous because its damages cannot be undone.

*WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD*

That's my point of criticism against Singularity: contrary to Bioshock, it has no good ending! No matter what Renkov does, America as he knew it is gone forever from history. And at best, it ends up switching places with Russia. (ie: Russia becomes the capitalist heaven, while America becomes a communist hell)

*END OF SPOILERS*
